Electric cigarettes are a phenomenon sweeping the world.
Invented in 2003 by Chinese pharmacist Hon Lik, electric cigarettes offer all the pleasures of smoking without the problems associated with tobacco. Smokers can choose from a wide range of flavors including caramel, chocolate, cola, vanilla and a variety of fruits. All of this in a smoking device offering all the relaxation people have come to expect from tobacco cigarettes. Electric cigarettes can also play a role in helping people to end their addiction to the nicotine in tobacco cigarettes; all of this and the potential to save money as well. It is what has made electric cigarettes a hot topic on at least five continents.
Electronic cigarettes, or e cigs as they are sometimes called, are relatively simple devices. They consist of three primary parts. There is a mouthpiece with a tube of e-juice attached, a tiny rechargeable battery and a heating element. The parts are housed in a tube that looks and feels like a regular cigarette. At the tip of the smokeless cigarette there is a LED. When the smoker inhales the heating element warms up the e-juice and steam is produced. The LED glows giving the appearance that the cigarette is lit. When the smoker exhales, the steam disappears. It looks like magic but it is actually science at work.
